Role Overview & Responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for the catering services within the Home

  • Responsibility for the training, supervision, appraisal and performance management of the catering team

  • Ensure that the rota is completed in a timely manner and the correct level of team members are on shift at any time

  • Attend meetings and training sessions both on and off site

  • Ensure that all regulatory and statutory requirements are met and company policies and procedures are adhered to

  • To have a comprehensive understanding of Health and Safety issues, particularly in respect of Basic Food Hygiene, COSHH, safe moving and handling and working within the guidelines relating to cross infection.

  • Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen and hygiene standards are achieved and maintained and is fit for EHO inspection at all times

  • Attend the home when inspections are being carried out (not withstanding book time off)

  • Ensure that all food safety and hygiene paperwork is completed as specified in Food Safety Manual and filed.

  • Ensure that any requirements from internal and external audits are actioned within the agreed timescales

  • To identify and report any malfunction or damage to equipment, in accordance with the company’s maintenance reporting procedure.

  • Promote choice and dignity to the residents of the Home in regards to the services provided

  • Ensure that the nutritional content of the meals provided cater for the dietary needs of all residents

  • Responsible for ensuring that the kitchen team deliver an exceptional service to the people who live & work in the home, guests, family members and other visitors

  • Liaise with residents to ensure they are happy with the food and beverages being provided within the home – including attending resident dining experience committees

  • To monitor and maintain effective stock control and rotation both in the kitchen and within the Units Kitchenettes including the control of crockery, cutlery and glassware.

  • To work as part of the leadership team of the home and to continue to support the leadership culture within the home – of transparency, learning & improvement

  • To conduct one- self professionally, in accordance with the organisations’ Code of Conduct, through behaviour, communication skills, appearance and standards of personal hygiene.

  • To observe for, report immediately and assist in resolving, any signs of abuse, in accordance with our safeguarding policies and procedures.

  • To actively promote an inclusive, equality based, non –discriminatory approach to all that we offer and all that we do

  • Ensure the kitchen team are clear about resident needs including allergies, special diets and how to ensure we offer what is needed at all times for each individual

  • Set up, lead and attend ‘home cooking’ classes for residents within the home

  • Utilise the organisations ordering technology and any other systems required

  • Meet with every new move in to the home and ensure nutrition care plan entails the

  • Any other duties deemed appropriate by the Home Manager or Unit Managers
