Role Overview & Responsibilities

Duncan & Todd Group is one of the leading optical and hearing care providers based in Scotland. In operation for over 40 years, our brands include: Duncan and Todd, 2020, Douglas Dickie, JM Macdonald, James Hughes, Browns, IC Andrews, and Smart Employee Eyecare.

Our lens manufacturing lab Caledonian Optical are currently recruiting for an Order Processor / Office Assistant to join our lab on a full-time basis working 40 hours over 5 days from Monday - Friday.

Caledonian Optical has just re-located to an exciting new facility in Kirkhill, Dyce in Aberdeen.


Typical Duties include:


  • Processing new orders that come in via DX/Royal Mail
  • Lens picking
  • Dealing with all incoming phone calls and emails, both internal and external, answering queries or passing to the appropriate person as necessary.
  • Manage and undertake a monthly stock take, ensuring accurate levels are recorded and any discrepancies highlighted to the Laboratory Manager
  • Liaise closely with the practices to ensure they are kept updated with progress on orders, resolving any issues that may arise.
  • Develop and maintain a good awareness of lens products.
  • Assist the office with ad hoc tasks as required.
  • Maintain and develop good working relationships with all staff, both within the department and in the wider organisation.
  • Maintain and develop good working relationships with suppliers and other external stakeholders, acting as an ambassador for the company always.
  • Maintain a high standard of work according to the QA system and British Standards
  • Follow all company health and safety procedures
  • Maintain a tidy workspace and assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the laboratory.

Previous experience working in an Optical environment and experience using ‘Optix’ is beneficial but not essential.

Previous administrative experience is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided.
