Role Overview & Responsibilities

The job itself

The Education Welfare Service is looking to recruit two additional Education Welfare Officers to meet the demands within the School Attendance Support Strand of this busy team. We are looking for candidates who have the ability and personality to develop positive and supportive relationships with schools, pupils and their families and be confident in representing the service.

A relevant degree level qualification and previous employment experience with families and children in a multi-agency setting and the ability to manage sensitive issues is essential, as is a general understanding of education welfare service roles and responsibilities as set out within the job outline.

The service undertakes the council’s statutory duty to ensure all pupils of compulsory school age have access to a suitable and efficient education either at school or otherwise. This includes enforcing instances of irregular school attendance when necessary. The service also undertakes the local authorities’ statutory duties in relation to children missing education, elective home education, the employment of children and issues licenses for those children who take part in entertainment performances.
