Role Overview & Responsibilities

Overview:
GB Railfreight are looking for a number of train drivers, or Managers as we call them, for our Motherwell depot, to help ensure we continue providing our customers with a best-in-class service at all times. Our Train Drivers are empowered to take responsibility for the delivery of the key activities on the front line, this encapsulates the need to always be conscious of, and operate with, the highest regard to safety.

We are seeking a highly professional, motivated and safety conscious individual who leads by example and exhibits the core values of GBRf - professionalism, trust & empowerment, support, communication and enjoyment!
Responsibilities:
As a Train Driver (Manager), you will join our Motherwell depot and get involved in everything from passenger operations on the Caledonian Sleeper train and the prestigious Royal Scotsman, to Network Rail posession trains, cement train, aggregate trains and container trains on the freight side, and anything in between! Never say never with GB Railfreight!

As you can tell, variety is part and parcel of the role, and can take you to a number of interesting places, over routes between Glasgow, Preston, from the Ayrshire coast to the foots of the West Highland Line, and even as far as Doncaster and the East Coast.

The job of a freight driver does however, require a flexible attitude to working hours, as it is a shift-based role, working a nominal 34.5 hour week (on average over the course of a year).
Qualifications:
  • Train Driving Experience (Passenger or Freight).
  • Candidates must have a clean safety record and must hold a valid UK car driving licence.
  • Extensive route and traction knowledge within the location and surrounding area would be desirable.
  • Proficient with IT packages such as Word, Outlook and ability to download applications on iPads.
  • Safety conscious and calm attitude in the event of an emergency situation.
  • Excellent concentration and observational skills.
  • Clear and professional communication skills to relay important safety messages.
  • Customer-focused with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Train managers must reside within 60 minutes of their place of work.
