Role Overview & Responsibilities

Malin Marine Services, part of the Malin Group, have an exciting opportunity for a Welder/Fabricator to join the team based in Renfrew. As Welder/Fabricator you will support the welding and fabrication of all and any works carried out.


Role and Responsibilities

  • To ensure all welding and fabrications regardless of location are carried out safely and to a high standard.
  • Contribute to design and installation of all projects you are involved in.
  • Ability to read and interpret Engineering and fabrication drawings.
  • Input to training requirements.
  • Ensure timesheets are filled in correctly as shown and be punctual.

Primary Objectives


  • Welding and fabrication in workshop and site.
  • Working knowledge of oil and gas/marine and structural welding/fabrication works and standards.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Time served welder/fabricator. Must be conscientious in approach to welding and fabrication to ensure high standards and quality. Working knowledge of oil and gas/marine and structural fabrication works and standards.


  • Act with honesty, integrity and accountability
  • Ability to work well in a team

Qualifications and Experience Requirements


An NC/HNC in welding/fabrication preferred but not essential at least 4 years’ experience in the above role.

Broad knowledge of welding and fabrication operation and procedures as required for the role and may include:

  • Manual Metal Arc (MMA)
  • Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG)
  • Metal Active/Metal Inert Gas (MAG/MIG)
  • Gas shielded Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
  • Oxy-Acetylene cutting/welding
  • Machine/workshop power tools and machinery.

Experienced working with a variety of materials to include mild steel, austenitic stainless steel and aluminium.


Physical Demands

This role is physically demanding as you will be involved in heavy Fabrication and welding projects. You may be required to work in every kind of weather on site and offshore. We will also require confined space and working at hights in this role.


Work Environment


Onshore workshop, site welding/fabrication and offshore, mobilisations and demobilisations when required. Traveling abroad may be required.
