Role Overview & Responsibilities

About the Role

Gossoms End Surgery in Berkhamstedis looking for a highly organised and motivated GP assistant on a part-time basis. Initially we are looking for someone to work 20 hours per week, ideally Tuesday-Friday but we are happy to discuss for the right candidate.

The role will involve admin and HCA tasks - you will provide comprehensive support to ensure the effective running of our surgery. Duties will include the following:

  • Urinalysis.
  • Measurement of height and weight.
  • Blood testing.
  • Smoking cessation intervention.
  • Provide new patient health checks and record findings.
  • Health promotion to include sexual health education.
  • Measurement of blood pressure, temperature and pulse.
  • Peak flow measurements.
  • Inhaler technique assessment and guidance.
  • Nebulising asthmatic patients.
  • Recording of spirometry.
  • Recording of ECGs.
  • Minor wound management.
  • Recognising changes in the patients' observations which must be reported and acted upon.
  • Enabling patients to access appropriate professionals in the practice team.
  • Providing relevant health promotion literature for patients.
  • Performing a variety of duties as directed by the GPs/practice manager.
  • Dealing with referrals, registrations and various other administrative tasks.
  • Assisting with maintenance of records, in written or computerised format.
  • Covering reception as required.
  • Dealing promptly and appropriately with any queries received or concerns raised.
  • Ensuring compliance and quality assurance is met in line with company procedures and CQC regulations.
  • Ensuring that all associated information is recorded accurately and promptly.
  • Ensuring emergency equipment boxes are monitored regularly and stocks replenished when used or expired
  • Maintaining clinical equipment efficiently.
  • Following infection control standards and ensure these are maintained and assist in developing protocols.
  • Contributing new ideas to improve patient care.
  • Instructing patients in appropriate techniques or tasks.
  • Assisting with audit and GMS contract data.
  • Attending relevant training to enable you to perform your role satisfactorily.
