Gut/Hide room Operative

Role Overview & Responsibilities

Required for busy local Abattoir which processes approximately 500 animals per week. Working full time, Monday to Friday (No Saturdays) from 7.00 am to 4.00 pm.

The role includes:

You will be responsible for the processing of all animal by products produced during the slaughter of animals in the abattoir throughout the day. This includes the cleaning, washing and trimming of stomachs, intestines and tripes for further processing, freezing and onward sale.

You will be taking hides and skins to the salting shed, applying salt and stacking for storage and onward sale.

You will be responsible for staining with blue dye of all Category 1 waste for removal by a third party waste removal company.

You will ensure the immediate area in the gut room and tripe room is kept clean and tidy.

You will also ensure the regular cleaning of the yard and all waste bins, keeping a high standard to prevent attracting pests.

Requirements.

You must be able to work in a relatively dirty, smelly and wet environment. (Please do not apply if you don’t think that you can) Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) is provided

Previous experience would be an advantage but full training and PPE will be provided.

Forklift operator’s licence would be an advantage but not essential.

You must possess good knife skills.

You must be physically fit.

You will be punctual, reliable and flexible as you will be working as part of a team that relies on these things.

COSHH and Manual Handling Training would be an advantage although training will be provided.

£10.00 per hour paid 4 weekly

20 days annual leave per year + 8 bank holidays.
