Permanent, Full Time, 37 hours per week


We are looking for an experienced and engaging Archivist who can provide effective management and development of the Nationally Accredited Rotherham Archives and Local Studies collection.

This is a wonderful opportunity to be involved in the further development of the Archives Service which is part of the wider Rotherham Museum, Arts and Heritage service and is situated at Clifton Park Museum.


Together the Rotherham Museum, Arts and Heritage service has created a new mission to ‘spark imagination, curiosity, and roots through the celebration of Rotherham’s people, stories, spaces and collections’. This is underpinned with five values of generosity, quality, inclusivity, wonder and resilience.


Rotherham Archives manages collections that cover 700 years of Rotherham’s wonderful history. It is also home to the York and Lancaster Regimental Archive which documents the 210 year history of the regiment and the men that served in it.


The Archivist will manage a small team to manage the collections, develop knowledge and understanding and provide public access through the search room, distance enquiries, exhibitions, and events. The Archivist will work with the full museum team to develop opportunities for public engagement with the collections as well actively developing the collections to ensure they are relevant and representative of the communities of Rotherham.


Interviews are expected to take place on w/c 10th July 2023 at Clifton Park Museum.

From 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2024 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a weekly / monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded of three additional day’s leave (pro rata for part-time).
