Personal care assistant required for a 21-year-old man with a spinal cord injury who lives in the Grassendale area, Liverpool 19. The client requires support to access the community (6 hours a week) and also to attend university (10 hours a week, please note, this part of the role is term time only). He would consider applicants who could assist him in both accessing the community and university and he will consider applicants who could only assist in one of the two roles.

Accessing the community
6 hours a week, to be spread over 2 shifts a week. Supporting him to access the cinema, concerts, matches, shopping, park, cafes, library and in socializing with friends. The client would prefer a carer who is fairly flexible with the hours/days they can work however; he can also be fairly flexible.

Accessing university
The client requires a Personal Assistant who can support him in accessing Hope University (Hope Park, Childwall) on Thursdays (09.30-16.30) and Fridays (13.30-16.30) therefore 10 hours a week. Please note this support is only required during term time and days of university attendance will change from each academic year . This role will involve supporting the client to attend lectures, seminars, the library and during breaks.

Carer must be physically fit enough to push an assistant wheelchair and at times use the attendant control to move the power wheelchair. The role involves administration of medication, toileting, feeding, basic physiotherapy stretches, maintaining his safety, assisting him to move about the campus and repositioning in wheelchair. It will involve setting up equipment in university and helping him in the library. Previous experience in similar roles preferred.
